Your source for hometown court news in Jacksboro

Under State law, there are generally three (3) Courts in Campbell County, Tennessee which may be handling your criminal case. They are the Criminal Court, the Campbell County General Sessions Court, and the Campbell County Child Support Court.

 

The Hon. E. Shayne Sexton presides over the Criminal Court of the Eighth Judicial District of Tennessee at Jacksboro in Campbell County, Tennessee. Judge Sexton has served as Criminal Court Judge since 1998. The Criminal Court handles all criminal jury trials in the county and presides over the Campbell County Grand Jury. The Criminal Court handles all felony (and some misdemeanor) cases which have been bound over to the Grand Jury, as well as all criminal cases that have been brought by indictment or presentment through the Grand Jury.

 

Judge Sexton has issued a procedural statement concerning how Criminal Court will be handled during the month of May 2020.

The criminal General Sessions Court of Campbell County, Tennessee considers all criminal cases (whether felony or misdemeanor) brought against individuals by way of a warrant or a citation in Campbell County, Tennessee, with the exception of violations of municipal ordinances and municipal traffic codes (which are sometimes brought through the City Courts) and child support warrants (which are brought through Child Support Court). Hon. Amanda H. Sammons presides over the Campbell County General Sessions Court. Judge Sammons has issued two (2) Orders concerning how criminal General Sessions Court cases during the coming weeks will be handled:


  • Docketing Order (click on this Order to find out what TIME you should appear in Sessions Court); and
  • Order of Procedure (click on this Order to find out HOW to appear in Sessions Court).

Please review both of the above orders prior to your court date, and follow the instructions contained therein. As you will see in the orders, the preference for all General Sessions Court appearances at this time is via video conferencing. Only if this cannot be achieved should you attempt to appear in person. If you have questions about your upcoming criminal General Sessions case, the Public Defender's number is (423) 563-9701. If you are a victim or a witness on a criminal General Sessions case, the District Attorney's number is (423) 562-4991. Otherwise, the Clerk's Office may be able to assist you at (423) 562-2624.

The Child Support Court handles all child support matters and warrants for failure to pay child support in Campbell County, Tennessee. The Hon. Greg Miller presides over Child Support Court. WARNING: If you are a defendant in any of the above three courts, then you are legally required to keep all of your court appearances, whether appearing electronically or otherwise; therefore, if you do not appear electronically or in person on your court date, a warrant will issue for your arrest. You alone are responsible for both knowing and keeping all of your future court dates.
